The Winspear Today: Beyond the Concert Hall

We serve Edmonton and northern Alberta by creating community and connection through music. As one of North America's most magnificent performance spaces, the Winspear of today is home to the renowned Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Tommy Banks Centre for Musical Creativity with its diverse programming. Hosting a wide array of dynamic live performances throughout the year, the Winspear unites both local and world-renowned talent with enthusiastic audiences from near and far.

The Winspear currently serves communities across Northern Alberta, with participants spanning all age groups and skill levels. We are a music resource for the region, hosting more than 30 programs and classes, from Music Box Babies and Wee Ones at the Winspear to open dress rehearsals, summer camps, and corporate programs. The Winspear's emphasis on inclusivity, equity, and accessibility ensures its educational opportunities are aligned with the needs of its communities while constructively contributing to positive social change.

An Inspired History

Since 1997, the Winspear Centre has brought the transcendent power of music to audiences in the heart of downtown Edmonton. But Dr. Francis G. Winspear and the original building committee had an even larger vision during its initial conception. Due to budget constraints, the project scope and building size were reduced.

The newly expanded Winspear will mark the completion of this widely shared dream of a music centre that is open to all people to explore music in its many forms.

"As a form of communication, music can transcend the boundaries of culture, differences in educational and economic backgrounds and barriers between nations. As such, music can help build harmony between people of all ages, races, cultures and beliefs in our own growing city."

Dr. Francis G. Winspear

Our Shared Future

Imagine the new Winspear Centre, freshly completed and ready to explore. Its striking architecture and grand windows beckon you closer. Outside, in the beautifully curated plaza, families and couples relax in the sunshine.

The front doors glide open and soft music floats into the foyer from a rehearsal space. Natural light pours in as visitors curiously engage with interactive displays. Journeying past classrooms, studios, and public spaces, you smile seeing people of all walks and ages come together.

The Music Box doors are open. This is the source of the melodies you've been following. You peer in as a group of three talented musicians are practicing—the energy of the room is teeming with potential. You linger, soaking up the magnetic atmosphere of artistry and community at the new Winspear.
